United By Blue

United By Blue is an international ecommerce startup that specializes in sustainable outdoor apparel and accessories. They held three physical stores: x2 Philadelphia, x1 NYC and sold in retailers worldwide such as Target, REI, and Nordstroms. I worked for five years as Head of Design which included illustrations and tech packs for apparel, 3D/environmental design for stores and tradeshows, print and digital experiences, and their entire ecommerce platform.

As the creative and design lead, I was consistently able to maintain a clear process and affect change for design across the whole organization while visually evolving the brand. At United By Blue, I tackled the full range of challenges for an ecommerce product, not just growth, foundational experiences, or design systems but the entire end to end customer experience.

I held sole responsibility for their ecommerce platform, which included transitioning them to Shopify’s CMS and integrating various plugins and partnerships. I also designed and maintained two apps for both their ecommerce and sustainability efforts and handled any website bugs, both in terms of code and design. I also managed the troubleshooting needs of various teams for web and app related issues.

Other responsibilities included:

  • Spearheaded the design efforts in creating visuals, wireframes, and prototypes for A/B testing, and various ecommerce and growth-focused initiatives, such as web and app improvements, newsletters, and ads

  • Responsible for gathering site metrics, conducting customer-centric research, and leading presentations on potential improvements.

  • Collaborated closely with our creative, product, and engineering teams, and led biweekly presentations and syncs with other stakeholders in the company.

  • Managed a cross-functional team composed of designers, photographers, illustrators, and developers and set the design direction for print, digital, and physical product. 

  • Led the visual and product design for successful brand collaborations including: Target, Subaru, Chacos, REI, Oru Kayak, Danner Boots, Backcountry, Lonely Whale, and more.
